CULTURE & FRIENDS is a cultural exchange organisation based in Madrid which offers young foreigners au pairs the temporary reception by Spanish host families, during 1, 2 or 3 months (only in summer) or even for 6, 9, 12 months.

In exchange for this, au pairs provide Host Families in Spain with quality child care services and they also teach their language and culture to the children.

Through the AU PAIR In Spain program we give our participants (Au Pairs and Host Families) the opportunity to learn more about other foreign countries and cultures and foster life-long friendship at the same time. Au pairs will be able to teach their host families their language and about culture and life in their countries. Spanish Host Families will integrate au pairs into their daily routine at home, offering them the chance to experience Spanish life and culture at first hand. Through this program, we hope that the au pair will return to his/her home country and share with family and friends a positive and realistic impression of life in Spain and Spanish people through this unique cultural exchange program.

How we work

AU PAIR In Spain program is run according to the articles laid down in the European Agreement on Au Pair Placement, Strasbourg, 24.XI.1969 (ETS No 068), within the framework of the Council of Europe, and according to the Code of Conduct and Guidelines internationally established by the IAPA (International Au Pair Association), in order to protect the rights of the au pairs and host families and offer a high quality service.

Culture & Friends just place directly au pairs from those countries where we do not have a partner organisation. In the case an au pair applies directly through our web site to participate in any of our programs, if she/he comes from a country where we do have a partner organisation, we will refer her/his application to our agent or partner organisation in that country. Program fee will be paid to the agent locally in their own currency. It varies from country to country.

We are not an Internet contact agency. We do not accept any au pair or family without checking the required documentation ( Complete application form, letters, pictures, references, passport, medical certificate, criminal record…)

CULTURE & FRIENDS team

Our team is made up of skilled and multicultural people with a wealth of experience and with a high commitment to a quality experience and cultural exchange. There are local coordinators in Spain to provide with the best possible support to families and au pairs in order to make this cultural exchange experience as more effective and comfortable as possible for both participants. We have also interviewers and partner agencies in other countries who verify that au pairs comply with current legal requirements and ensure that the quality of au pair applications is consistent with Au Pair in Spain standards and host family needs. Only the most qualified au pairs are accepted. Most of our team members have previous experience as host family and/or as au pair. This makes easier for them to understand families and au pairs needs and meet their expectations.
